Arushi Mudgal 2018
Over the course of 4 days, renowned Odissi dancer Arushi Mudgal taught the students of Deepam a pure Odissi dance piece. The workshop had a packed schedule for our participants and each day, a guest speaker gave lecture demonstrations to help the dancers understand their bodies better and pave a path for a confident dance journey ahead.
About Arushi Mudgal
Arushi Mudgal is one of the foremost young talents in the field of Odissi, known for her technical virtuosity and creative approach to tradition. She has trained under her aunt and guru, Vidushi Madhavi Mudgal, at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, a premier music and dance institution founded by her grandfather, Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya, and currently headed by her father, Pandit Madhup Mudgal. She has also had the opportunity of seeking guidance from great maestros and dancers like Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Vidushi Leela Samson. In 2008, Arushi was the only Indian artiste to be invited by the famous dancer- choreographer Pina Bausch of Wuppertal Tanztheater to perform at the Internationales Tanz Festival in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Arushi was featured as one of the young Game Changers of India by India Today in 2011. She was also nominated for the Femina Women Award 2017 in the category of Performing Arts. For her contribution in the field of Odissi dance, she has been presented with various awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi’s prestigious national award – Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, the Young Women Achievers’ Award by FICCI, the Indian President’s Bal Shree Award, the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award, the Chitra Kala Sangam Samman, the Sanatan Nritya Puraskar,the Original Mind Award, and the Touring Fellowship from Milapfest, UK.
